If you were to be bolder in 2020 than you were in 2019, what would you do?

What gutsy goals would you set?

Each year I ask our HerBusiness Network members to consider this question as we get to the end of a year.

And, this is a question that I too have asked myself for many years.

At the start of 2019 members listed Bold Goals like:

  • Launch a new course
  • Write an e-book
  • Create a debt-collection app
  • Get paid to speak
  • Take my family on a Holiday
  • Embrace success in all forms
  • Travel more
  • Being less involved in the day-to-day customer service
  • Get more reliable leads from an existing database
  • I will have built my business enough to be able to quit my job of 15 years!
  • Be SEEN. Get on video more (especially live videos).
  • Complete my book (which is 1/2 complete).
  • Finalise my divorce. Meet my Life Partner and be pregnant this time next year.

Wow. They were some pretty amazing and bold goals.

Your Bold Goal is your heart speaking what it wants.

When you set that Bold Goal (even if you’re too afraid to verbalise it) it can make you sweat a little.

That, is an indication that it’s a place that you want to dare to go.

And, with the right support you can step into this bolder way of being.

I truly believe you can achieve anything when you have the right people and resources available to you.

Listen to hear:

  • How having the right people around you gets you closer to your goals faster
  • The book that shows you how to have the ‘stick-with-it-ness’ to get any goals
  • Why mapping out the steps to your goal before you start taking action gets you where you want to go faster, and with less hassle
  • How your habits impact whether or not you actually get your goal
  • Suzi’s scary 2020 Bold Goal ;-)

Ever since I was young, I’ve kept a journal. There were years where I religiously spilled my guts into a journal, my first romances, my deepest worries, my concerns.

Then, for many years I did not write. Many years. Like most of my 20s and part of my 30s.

Today I write daily. It’s become a habit that I’m keen to keep up. One that I make a priority each morning, before I dive into my day.

Here’s why...

About 20 years ago I came across Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way and started again, using her guidance, to write regularly. I bought a bunch of her books The Sound of Paper, The Artist’s Way at Work… and I ate them up.

I was in my late 20s and early 30s and so much was changing about my life I needed an outlet.

I was in my own business and there was a lot of confusion about what I was doing and where I was going. And it really helped.

In this episode I explain how I recently rediscovered the power of a daily journaling habit and how I got past the concern of not having anything to write or say.

Listen to hear:

  • How to start a daily journal
  • How a daily habit clears out the ‘junk file in your head
  • What to write about
  • How to get started even if you don’t consider yourself a write
  • Why taking pen to paper “primes the pump and the flow of ideas begins to move”

Regardless of what sort of results we are looking for, when we don’t go after a specific outcome, when we don’t have a definite idea of what we are trying to achieve… how can we know if we are successful?

We have unlimited options to be, do and have what we want in life and business, including:

How we spend our time

How we build our business

The products and services that we provide

Who we serve as customers

Who we surround ourselves with - our peers, mentors, teachers

These unlimited choices can leave us making no choice, for fear of making the wrong choice.

Or, we hold back simply because we haven’t identified the power of being ‘definite with the infinite’.

Listen to hear:

  • Insights about business from an unlikely source
  • Why being definite brings about all sort of support for your visions
  • The types of situations in business you want to be specific about
  • How adding a number to your goals makes them more real
  • How one woman went from a standing start to $10K a month in sales by being definite
  • The difference between being definite and being unrealistic

In order to communicate effectively, we need to connect with our audience, whether that is ourselves if we are planning or working on an important project.

Our partners…
Our children…
Our clients…
Our social media followers…

We connect when we are FULLY present with them.

This means that we are truly aware of who we are communicating with and if they are ready to hear our message.

If we are using language that they comprehend.

If they have actually acknowledged and understood our communication.

Being present when we communicate matters with clients and prospects staff, partners, suppliers.

It, of course, is also relevant to our personal relationships - how we communicate with our partners, kids and even our pets.
Being present is how we develop our presence.

Listen to hear:

  • Why multitasking is not your friend
  • How past upsets and failures can keep us un-present
  • When language can take us from present to not present
  • Why being in our head keeps us from connecting
  • The importance of taking time to be present with our dreams and visions
  • The greatest gift you can give another human being

If you’ve ever held back in putting yourself forward for opportunities…
Going for that bigger contract…
Charging that higher price…

Then this episode is for you.

Confidence is not (despite what those 80s motivational speakers tried to tell us) just wearing the right clothes, having a firm handshake and feeling good about ourselves.

The good news is that confidence is a habit that can be strengthened, so be encouraged... you just need a little bit to start with... there is plenty more where that came from!

Listen to hear:
  • The five steps to creating the Confidence Habit
  • How connecting with the fire in your belly will keep you on track during tough times
  • Why the people around you make the biggest impact on your confidence
  • How your skills and knowledge bolster your confidence

The more people we want to reach
The bigger partnerships
The bigger team
The more clients we want to have

… the better we need to become as communicators

Good communication is how we upgrade our relationships and our lives.

The lack of communication and bad communication can also be how we downgrade our relationships and our lives.

Communicating our worth includes:

  • Being able to charge the prices we are worth and what you deserve
  • Communicating the experience and authority you have, with confidence
  • Being able to stand in the face of feeling like a fraud or an imposter and being able to ask for the sale
  • Knowing that you have a lot of value to bring and perhaps it’s just the way that you’re communicating what you do and how you do it that is not demonstrating your value

Listen now to hear:

  • The clues that your communication is missing the mark
  • Why upgrading your communication is essential if you want to play a bigger game
  • How to use your unique experience to communicate your worth
  • How communicating our value to our team helps them keep our business goals and dreams moving forward

Communication happens to be one of my favourite topics.

It’s how as business leaders we upgrade our relationships, our businesses and our lives.

In this episode I speak to you about communicating powerfully, being more visible and reaching more people with your message…

When you want to take your business from one level to another, your ability to communicate your vision is really important.

When you want to reach more people and reach higher goals, communication is key.

So often women are not willing to really put themselves out there and communicate in a big way.

And that has an impact on the number of people we can reach and the results we can get.

So, that’s what we’re looking in this episode.

This is for you if...

  • You’re not putting yourself forward for opportunities as much as you’d like to
  • You want to connect with your customers more and in different ways but you don’t want to feel vulnerable or be criticized
  • You’re just not sure how to communicate the value that you bring
  • You feel like you could be making more of an impact but you’re holding back
  • You could also be a great communicator - and you’re looking to keep honing your skills
  • Or you have a brand new type of product or service and you’ve never positioned that offer in the market before
  • You’ve changed your focus and while you knew how to talk about yourself in your old business, you’re not sure who you want to be now that you creating a new direction for your business
  • You lack some confidence and belief in yourself or your product and who you’re being doesn’t match up with what you’re doing and the results you’re getting.

To reach more people, make more of an impact, reach more customers...

To make a dent in the world — you need to be able to communicate confidently.

Enjoy.

I love building networks!

In fact, my last business was a network of over 100,000 people who loved personal developmentand personal finance training, who connected with each other at events and did business and even real estate deals together.

And HerBusiness — has grown from a network of a few hundred people to a community of thousands of women.

And here is a really important difference for you to understand..

I have built networks…

But, I’ve always hated traditional networking…

AND I consider myself an introvert.

And still, I’ve built numerous large networks of people who are doing business together and getting great results turning their networks into profits and making a real contribution.

BECAUSE… I didn’t just create a network… I created a CONNECTION network.

In this episode, I tell you about the three-part system that I created precisely because I don’t like or believe in traditional networking, but I LOVE building a connection network.

When you have a connection network… you never feel salesy or out of place or pushy…

…because your network is built on real, authentic relationships… where opportunity naturally shows up… you don’t have to force it…

This is not the kind of network where you just accumulate contacts and reach out only when you need something…

Or, worse still, where others in your network are only ever reaching out to you when THEY need something.

This is the kind of network that is based on CONNECTION.

A REAL connection… just like elsewhere in life - involving respect, mutual values, and a desire for EVERYONE to win...

… and where you can get everything you need, simply by knowing the 3 key moves which are part of a larger Connection Blueprint that I’m sharing in our free workshop.

Listen to hear:

  • How I grew a huge network without going to networking events
  • How to ‘show up’, even if you’re shy and introverted
  • How to identify where you sit on the Connection Scale, and how to get to the ‘sweet spot’ in the middle
  • How one woman created 10s of thousands of dollars in business quickly by taking this very first step
  • Why your connections matter to your long-term ability to get referrals and new clients, quickly and easily

Word of mouth is the most important way to grow your business, yet nobody has a strategy for it.

We just assume that it happens, without realising that we have to light a match to create the spark to cause the conversation.

Nobody has ever said, "Hey, let me tell you about this perfectly adequate experience I had." Because that's not a good story.

You need a ‘Talk Trigger’ to give your customers something to talk about.

In this episode of the HerBusiness Podcast, you’ll learn how to create a ‘Talk Trigger’ for seriously memorable – and shareable – customer experiences.

"These companies realised that if they came up with a word of mouth strategy, they could spend less on advertising and end up better off at the end."  Jay Baer

Your Talk Trigger can be something that’s free or cheap, as long as it’s relevant and remarkable.

And customers will love telling the story of how you surprised and delighted them that day.

Listen to this podcast episode with Jay Baer to discover:

  • Why your business needs a word of mouth strategy
  • How to use the power of the ‘Talk Trigger’ to give every customer a memorable – and sharable – experience
  • The steps to create a remarkable, relevant, repeatable and reasonable ‘Talk Trigger’ for your business
  • The five types of ‘Talk Triggers’ and how to choose one that’s right for your business
  • Why the ‘Talk Trigger’ must be for every single customer, every single time
  • That word of mouth isn’t really marketing, it’s operations that create a marketing advantage

The worlds of business and creativity have combined.

Exploring your interests and giving in to your creative curiosity can energise you AND innovate your business.

It turns out that allowing yourself to be passionate about something other than your business can energise you, and benefit your business.

While we may see creativity as an indulgence, the little thing that piques your interest may be the next opportunity to grow your business.

Valerie Khoo, visual artist and National Director of the Australian Writers’ Centre, recently threw herself into the world of art. This sparked growth in her business, her career, and developed her “Creative Quotient”.

Valerie is the featured guest in this episode of the HerBusiness podcast.

In this episode we look at:

  • How your creative interests can lead to innovation in your business
  • Why creativity is a vital factor in determining your bottom line
  • How to incorporate creativity into your life
  • The perils of ignoring your 'creative quotient'

Most business owners are intentional about what they do in their business.

But WHEN they do things?

More often than not, the timing of significant activities gets left to chance or availability.

What if the timing of an activity, either the time of day or day of the year, made the difference between success and failure?

Daniel Pink, author of When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timinghas researched the effect of timing within dozens of scientific fields and applied the findings to business.

In this podcast episode you’ll learn about the science of timing, and how to choose the right timing for your next important activity.

"We go crazy over who's going to be at a meeting, and what we're going to do. When it comes to when we do it, we think it doesn't matter. It matters. It matters a lot."

Daniel Pink’s research found that being intentional about the timing of activities drastically improves outcomes in your business: the productivity of internal meetings, the effectiveness of marketing promotions, and how a customer feels after a sale.

A few small tweaks to the timing of your activities could be a game changer for your business.

And the best part is: it doesn’t have to cost you a cent.

Listen to discover:

  • The PERFECT TIME for YOU to make better decisions, ask better questions and be MORE creative
  • When to schedule your IMPORTANT work so that it takes advantage of universal principles of timing
  • The best time to START your new project or business
  • What your doing with your time that reduces your PRODUCTIVITY and your creativity
  • How to keep yourself and your team ENGAGED AND MOTIVATED, even when you’re
  • working on long-term projects

Your hidden genius is inside you, waiting to be coaxed out.

At first, your hidden genius shows up as a little wisp that floats across your head. You might have dismissed it. Maybe you thought it wasn’t clear enough to be taken seriously.

But you can move forward with just the wisp. You think, “I’m going to follow that wisp”, and see what happens next.

You’re more than you’re allowing yourself to be

In this HerBusiness podcast interview with Victoria Labalme, you’ll learn how to highlight the awesomeness that will draw people to you.

You should be asking “What lights me up?” and then "How can I put this out into the world in service of others?"

That’s a transformative question to ask.

Because when you inspect all those things that light you up, you’ll find a common thread between them.

And that thread, which Victoria calls the ‘Throughline’, helps you create an experience that stops time for people.

Listen to discover:

  • What are YOUR unique value proposition and your hidden genius?
  • The importance of recognising the ‘through line’ that keeps trying to get your attention

Getting marketing messages right is a fine art. What if there were a few small changes you could make, tiny changes even, that could drastically improve the profit on your next marketing project?

Research suggests that the key difference to the results you get can depend on how you present information before you get to your real sales pitch. Dr Robert Cialdini, the world’s expert on influence and persuasion calls this Pre-Suasion.

Pre-suasion involves the process of arranging for people to move in the direction of the message that we're going to send them before they experience that message.

For example…

When asking customers to try a new product, asking a question a particular way shot

In another example, the use of specific symbols in an email produced FIVE TIMES as many sales as ones without. Two images on a website when tested against one another, with nothing else changed, netted TOTALLY different results.

These aren’t random incidents. They’re actually the result of the deliberate use of Pre-Suasion. Now you can learn how to use Pre-Suasion to increase conversion rates in your own business.

In this podcast interview with the world’s expert on influence and persuasion, Robert Cialdini, you’ll learn how to structure information to guide customers’ attention so they buy more often. And, how to ethically influence them to buy more expensive items than they had planned to buy from you.

Listen to this podcast episode with Suzi Dafnis and  Dr Robert Cialdini to discover:

  • What are the six influence principles and how they make your marketing more persuasive
  • How to guide people to move in the direction of the message that we're going to send, before they experience that message (ie. what to do before asking for the sale)
  • Why you should ask for your customers’ advice rather than their opinions
  • How small changes to a landing page can steer customers in a particular direction
  • Which one tiny change to an email subject line made a 5-fold increase in sales
  • How to use the principles of authority and social proof to boost sales conversions

What impact does your environment have on your creativity and productivity?

Disorganisation can prevent you from quickly laying your hands on the information you need in your business or life admin. What’s more, clutter creates frustration and slows you down.

Clutter can be either physical clutter or mental clutter – messy desk, too many unfinished projects in progress, and focusing on perfectionism when perfect isn’t necessary.

Outer order contributes to inner calm

In this HerBusiness podcast episode with Suzi Dafnis and Gretchen Rubin, you’ll discover how to create the right level of outer order to suit your business and your life.

"What you do every day matters more than what you do once in a while."

Hear about Gretchen’s game-changing daily habits that contribute to order.

Like the "One Minute Rule":
Anything you can do in less than a minute, do it right away. Print out a letter and file it. Respond to an email with a quick one-paragraph reply.

This gets rid of a lot of the tiny tasks that are the scum on the surface of life. Deal with them as you go and you can create and maintain order, leaving room in your life for the things that make you happy.

Listen to this episode with Gretchen Rubin to discover:

  • How outer order contributes to inner calm
  • One of the worst uses of your precious time is unnecessary busy work
  • How to let go of the clutter of unfinished projects, without guilt
  • Use the "Ten Minute Closer" and the "One Minute Rule" to transform your productivity
  • Why there’s no right way to create and maintain order
  • How to free your mind (and your shelves) for what you truly value

Whether you're refining an existing market or launching into a new market, the first decision you will need to make is choosing WHO.

Ryan Levesque is the Inc. 500 CEO of The ASK Method® Company and the #1 national best-selling author of ASK. His new book, Choose, is the topic of this interview.
